The name of Alexander
Dmitriev is internationally very well known amongst lovers
of the art of the bayan. One of the leading accordionists in
Russia, Dmitriev belongs to the St Petersburg's bayan school
and is teaching at the St Petersburg's Music Conservatory combining
successful pedagogical and concert careers.
Dmitriev is one of the leading
presenters of the best traditions of the Russian bayan school
in the area of transcriptions, style and musical thinking. The
main contents of this recording are Dmitriev's transcriptions
of well known compositions written by Buellmann, Weber, Liszt
and Strauss. Dmitriev possesses an excellent inner hearing and
as a result, his transcriptions sound as if they were originally
written for the accordion, showing all the timbre varieties
of the accordion.
He also
possesses stunning technical abilities and it shows in particular
in his performance of Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumble Bee"
and Rossini's "Cavatina Figaro". His musical thinking is refined
and his understanding of different musical styles profound and
