Peter
Piccini was born in Sydney in 1936 and began to learn the
accordion from his father Peter Piccini Senior, who has sometimes
been referred to as the daddy of the accordion in Australia
and was the first to introduce the piano keyboard to Australia.
In 1955 and 1963 he went to Europe
and England to broadcast for the BBC, appearing in television
shows, radio, films, stage shows and recordings.
After that he became musical director for Channel 9 Television
Network and also broadcasting for the ABC in Australia. In 1968
he toured the Far East and Vietnam with an all Australian concert
party, entertaining the Australian and American forces. In 1972
he did another tour of Europe and visited USA. He was then back
in Australia and became very busy broadcasting once again recordings
with his large orchestra and composing music for the accordion.
As all the tunes on this CD are
composed by Peter, he presents himself not only as a very talented
composer but also as a very fine and experienced performer and
entertainer. Peter offers a great variety of styles. The tunes
follow each other in a very pleasant, smooth way, making an
impression that whole CD is one whole musical story. With an
incredibly warm tone, pleasant performing manner together with
technical superiority make Peter, in my opinion, an entertainer
with real class. He would be one of those rare entertainers
capable of making his instrument "talk".
Although the main portion of the
CD is for the solo accordion, in Peter's hands his accordion
sounds so full, rich and self contained that you don't notice
it is!
A great piece of entertainment
and fun!
