Born in Romania and now residing
in Montreal, Canada, world acclaimed Marin Nasturica started to
learn the accordion at the early age of 4 with Gicu Cofler. A
few years later he worked as a soloist and at 16 he performed
with some of the best singers of his native land, either in studio
or on radio/television, where he was a permanent soloist.
At the age of 19, Marin Nasturica had already
started a fantastic touring career. Countries performed in include
Germany, Austria, Denmark, Holland, Greece, Belgium, Egypt,
Italy, Russia, USA, Canada and Japan.
Through these tours, Marin Nasturica gained
the opportunity to perform before several famous people such
as American President Nixon, Italian President Sandro Pertini
and Brezhnev. He also played for the astronauts who first went
to the moon, receiving a great ovation.
Marin Nasturica has also performed with major
symphonic orchestras such as the Metropolitan in 1986 and 1987
(conducted by Agnès Grossman and Paul-André Boivin), while participating
in many international events such as the Montreal International
Jazz Festival (1996, 1997), Toronto Big Squeeze (1993), The
World Accordion Carrefour (1989), the Grande Fëte de l'Accordèon
(1992) and the Alma World Festival of Accordion (1995).
After listening to Marin Nasturica's recording,
I have no doubt that Marin is a world class jazz accordionist.
Although the accordion is the lead instrument in Marin's band,
I have to say that it appears as though each member is undoubtedly
a splendid jazz musician, and in whole, they sound like an excellent
professional team.
To listen to Marin is a very special musical
treat. His performing style is so rich and vibrant and his performance
on the whole is totally impressive. A must for any jazz enthusiasts
collection!
