Notes by Guy Klucevsek:
"Who stole the polka features eight songs
and seven instrumental pieces from POLKA FROM THE FRINGE, a collection
of 32 post-modern two steps, which I began commissioning in 1986.
The idea was to bring together two parts of my schizoprhrenic
musical background: growing up in a Slovenian/American community,
where I played polkas and waltzes for picnics, while at the same
time studying classical accordion.
While I had been composing polkas, waltzes,
twists and other dance music since I was in my early teens,
these composers made me realise I wanted to spread my wings,
both as a composer and performer. My own tastes led me to the
music of Phillip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley etc."
Well, well, well.....This band with the accordion
as a main instrument is certainly something new and unusual.
I, personally, am not particularly a lover of contemporary polka
and similar irrational sounds, so for my taste this CD would
be a bit too "spicy".
Why not find out for yourself?
