The
Monterey Coast of California is an extremely beautiful part of
the natural scenery prevalent in the United States. It is where
the land meets the Pacific Ocean along the western coastline,
sometimes with a vicious fury against the rocks but often with
a serene beauty that belies the depth and, perhaps, other dangers
lurking in an ocean. The highway meanders along the coast whether
cutting through the various cliffs or beside a field with cattle
or agriculture.
There are gorgeous homes, restaurants and, yes of course, several
towns that draw thousands of visitors throughout the year. One
such town is Monterey, a city long famous for its jazz festival.
And this where the title of this CD originates! There are some
very traditional Italian favorites on this CD.
The surprise, perhaps, is that it includes some of the best-known
opera arias right along with the other melodies of a less serious
nature. Various members of the group, even without a singer, perform
all the pieces beautifully and with heartfelt charisma! One can
well imagine why the group has people returning time and time
again to listen to them, regardless of the food and wine for dinner.
This is a very nice recording. Everyone will enjoy every selection
included. Several of the composers, of course, are among the world's
best known. All the pieces, however, you will recognize, whether
by name, composer, words, or melody because they are so popular
throughout countries everywhere.
