CD is fruit of great passion - one can feel and hear.
- Passion between the
musicians, who met through their chamber music activity at the University of Toronto,
got to know each other and fell in love.
- Passion for music, passion without
borders between the various musical kinds, like the CD demonstrates.
- Passion
for each others instruments, that enables them to create new music.
Accordionist
David Carovillano is also the composer of three pieces:
- the tango "Kenortango",
a homage to klezmer with also a bit of jazz
- the more classical style "Klezmerized"
-
"Flight of Fancy".
From these 3 compositions, I personally find
"Flight of Fancy" the most impressive and interesting from a composing
point of view and also, for the interplay created between the two instruments;
a work importamt to anyone looking for new repertoire for the accordion and clarinet.
Also very interesting are the other two "creations" especially
written for this CD: "Marionnette Fandangle" by Charles T. Cozens and
"Fast Fingers" by Walter Bucyznski. In particular this second piece
enunciates in fascinating language, seeming to stylize a bit on the famous "Dizzy
Fingers" and noteable, the great difficulty regarding its execution: indeed
an excellent work.
The concert style of the CD (meant to be a recital)
is comleted with the insertion of transcriptions, arrangements and some ever-greens.
A tribute to the baroque style of Händel (a choice I found a bit outlandish/extravagant),
to the late 1800's of Fauré (evocative - the idea to transcribe the last
movement of the Requiem) and then, like it is obligatory, to perform Libertango
by Piazzolla. The pieces to remember are "That's Amore", "Nessun
Dorma" and "Tico, Tico".
One thing, that I have appreciated
a lot, is the idea to write some short comment about every single piece. These
comments must not be a "constriction" to the imagination of the listener,
who retain their free choice of imagination and enjoyment. These comments seek
only to reveal the motion that has guided the artists in their performance execution,
all with a good dose of humor, that they are always very much appreciated.
