These
two CDs by Bernadette
Conlon, 7 times Australian National Champion and 4 times South Pacific Champion,
will be most welcome additions to the collections of Frosini's music by aficionados
all over the world. The selections are well chosen to represent his many diverse
styles, always recognizable as Frosini gems, favorites with students and teachers
of the accordion everywhere.
They represent an earlier era of the accordion's
repertoire, one perhaps no longer heard except in various competitions for younger
players. The pieces still provide much pleasure to the listener, particularly
those of a certain age group that grew up learning all these pieces. Bernadette
gives two renditions of some of the titles, one on the elect ronic MIDI, the other
on the acoustic accordion. One will find the comparisons interesting and, for
the new performer on MIDI, rather instructional regarding the choices some MIDI
players make when using the instrument.
Bernadette obviously gave much
thought to the selection of the repertoire including some of the most famous and
popular original compositions and arrangements for accordion. She imbues her playing
with the typical style and techniques necessary to the successful presentation
of this historical period of the accordion. The music makes the listener happy,
satisfied and quite appreciative of the genius that was unique to Pietro Frosini.
Stated on the CDs about Bernadette's playing is: "The dazzling cadenzas
of Carnival of Venice, The Alpine Shepherd and the fantasies, brilliantly demonstrate
her wizardry, while the poignant, deliciously tender and yearning waltzes seduce
the listener into her world of romance, bringing the genre of the accordion standard
to a heightened, new level of artistry. An artistry for which Frosini would have
been proud." I believe many of you will agree. For further information contact:
