In
this CD there is no conductor and this is shown immediately in
the text of the CD booklet.
Progetti (Projects) is like saying: a vulcano from 1994 to 2000
who is named Simone
Zanchini! Or better, if one wants to find one - it is pure
improvisation. We can see this in the beginning of his album:
"Besame a Mucho" (with the Trio Terre di Mezzo) - almost
incredible - it is a clear testimony between the excellent relationship
of instrument and creativity, that corresponds with the spirit
of the Trio. To follow is "Valzer Storto" (again with
the Trio Terre di Mezzo), which is also available in sheet music
published by Barvin. Then is "La Vignaccia" a solo improvisation
constructed like an ironic mixture that makes one think of Jarrett
or better Salis.
Then of course there is "Oblivion"
performed with the Modern Saxophone Quartet followed (without
a continuous solution) by a wonderful and rich solo interpretation
of the exploding (vulcano) accordionist. Similarly also is the
piece Libertango. The project together with the Manritte Quartet
(accordion, piano, bass and drums) presents and introduces "Le
vacanze di Hegel", the best piece of this CD.
Full
sonority and rhythm is obtained by Simone together with the two
guitarists (Deiana, Bonaviri) in "Ramblas Tango" and
in duo with saxophonist Mario Marzi in the phrenetic piece "Cego
Aderaldo which is a tribute to the great Egberto Gismonti".
"8 Years of My Life" (impro-solo) is a title that could
have easily replaced "Progetti" (Projects) as the title
piece of this album.
Listen, listen - what is to follow:
almost a crash between two locomotives: Antonello Salis and Simone
Zanchini performing together in an outstanding improvisation (and
of course this piece is also named "train") as well
as in "Autumn Leaves" - "A night in Tunisia",
all recorded live in Bologna.
The most popular song of all accordionists
around the world (I am talking of Libertango by Piazzolla) is
proposed within this memorable recording with "nobody less"
than "Ensemble Scaligero" which is the chamber group
of the Theatre "Scala di Milano". In the next piece,
there is the strong and evocative solo rhythm of Simone. The CD
rounds up with "Vendetta" of "Besame Mucho"
(and therefore indeed defined) of the Trio Terre di Mezzo. How
many beautiful "projects"....
