Georg
Schulz, born in Graz in 1963, studied accordion with Elsbeth Moser
and Mogens Ellegaard, parallel to his chemistry studies at the
Graz University. In 1992 he graduated to "Magister Artium" (Master
of Arts) with his main subject being accordion at the University
of Music and Drama Arts Graz. Since then he has been teaching
there.
Within his concert activities at
home and abroad, Georg Schulz has focused on contemporary chamber
music giving numerous performances at diverse festivals of the
IGNM, chamber music performances at "Wien Modern 1993", Festival
d'Automne Paris 1996, string quartet with accordion at Horgange
1996, solo recital at Horgange 1998, etc.
As a theatre musician he performed
in numerous productions of the Buhnen Graz and arranged the music
of some of the productions of the Graz Schauspielhaus. He has
been accompanist at many vocal recital programmes and wrote stage
music for the "Kabinetttheater".
Georg Schulz's main focus is on
contemporary chamber music and this recording represents just
that - contemporary music exclusively, written for the accordion
and percussion. Georg performs complex contemporary music with
great mastery.
Composite musical language, involved
structure and texture of contemporary music require profound musical
understanding and Georg shows high professionalism in this area.
Two of Piazzolla's compositions are presented on this recording
as well, arranged for the accordion and percussion - wonderful
combination and the most interesting performance.
This would be contemporary accordion
music at its best. *****
