CD coverVitali Dmitriev was born in St Petersburg in 1977. His musical talent was evident early. He started playing the accordion at the age of five. Two months later he gave his first concert. Then, he entered the School of Music and in 1984 he took part in the youth competition of folk instrument players at which he was placed first. Two years later, Vitali once again won the same competition. In 1999 Vitali graduated from the State St Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory of Music. Vitali has been awarded first prizes at some of the most important international competitions as follows:

1989 - Bulgaria (Chirpan)
1989 - France(Mutzig)
1993 - Italy (Castelfidardo)
1994 - Germany (Klingenthal)
1995 - Italy (Castelfidardo)
1995 - Sweden (Avesta) - Coupe Mondiale
1999 - France (Marcielle)

Vitali has participated in various concerts and festivals in Germany, USA, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Austria, Poland, etc. and has appeared many times in various TV and Radio broadcasts, recording his first CD in 1991.

On this recording Vitali plays an interesting program covering a wide spectre of styles and genres. His performance is characterized by fantastic technical freedom, deep understanding of the musical content of the performed pieces, freshness and wideness in expression..

There is also one more side to Vitali's performing nature: the wonderful poetic quality of his performance, especially showing in his interpretation of Scarlatti. Vitali's delicate, intimate and poetic understanding of Scarlatti is very impressive. At other times, with the background of that graceful poetry, Vitali's strength and power (Zolotarev, Bach, etc) is equally inspiring.

This is quite a performance! *****
