In the seven years since her debut
recording, Lindsay has continued her busy musical schedule, playing
at a wide range of functions. The band have recorded four excellent
broadcasts for BBC Radio Scotland's "Take The Floor", including
a live recording from Dingwall. From 1995 to 1997, Lindsay also
played accordion in Scotland's longest running show, "Scottish
Showtime" at the Cummings Hotel, Inverness. Playing for dances
is often the focus of weekend functions, and Lindsay continues
to be a popular guest artist at Accordion and Fiddle Clubs throughout
Scotland.
Accordionist Lindsay Weir and her
Scottish Dance Band present a set of twenty different ceilidh
dances on this recording. An enjoyable variety, is presented,
with slow and moderate dances taking turns with more lively ones.
Being the lead player of a band,
Lindsay's playing is technically competent, emphasising the dance
character of each tune.
It's pleasant to hear the piano
being dominant in a rhythm section as well as supporting the melody
with some fine arrangements, instead of "hogging" solos. An excellent
job done here!
If you enjoy Scottish dance music,
I am sure this CD of accordionist Lindsay Weir and her Scottish
dance Band will be attractive to you.
