Alexander
Dmitriev is an eminent figure in the accordion world.
One of the leading accordionists and pedagogues in Russia. Alexander
Dmitriev is also very well known internationally.
Currently, Dmitriev holds a teaching
position at the "Korsakov" Conservatorium of Music in St. Petersburg,
Russia, conducts masterclasses and performs and adjudicates both
nationally and internationally. Dmitriev also actively records
and publishes albums with a pedagogical accordion repertoire.
Dmitriev's program for this recording
is built in historical order as it starts with baroque works then
goes through the romantic period and finishes with modern pieces.
It is not often that all the necessary
qualities that make an exceptional artist are combined in one
person and Dmitriev possesses all of these qualities that make
him an Artist with a capital "A". It would be rather bold to say
"it is perfect" about one artist's performance, but I will
take that liberty and say "it is PERFECT!" I believe, there is
nothing to be added nor taken away from his performance. Dmitriev
plays with that perfect sense of measure: stylistically, dramatically,
tempo wise, sensibility and articulation wise. And - I have to
mention it - breathtaking technically. Dmitriev has total and
absolute technical freedom.
He opens up his performance with
big polyphonic paintings: Bach's Fantasy and Fugue in G minor
and Prelude and Fugue in E Minor and Frank's Pastorale in F Major,
and performs these philosophical works with great depth and absolute
understanding.
Baroque miniatures by Scarlatti
and Rameau are performed with extraordinary charm and refinement,
stylistically immaculate.
This artist's maestral virtuosity
is fully shown in his performance of Paganini/Liszt, Brehme and
Dikusarov.
Incredible performance!
