Grayson
Masefield was born in Auckland, New Zealand on the 10th September 1987
to accordion playing parents Ian and Heather Masefield.
His musical career began at 3 years of age with Fay Schaw, then developed into the entertainment field with Maurice Jones. He played in the North Shore Accordion Orchestras, starting in the Novices, progressing to the NSAO. Grayson began classical training at Auckland University with Stephanie Poole. Grayson went to France for seminars and tuition with Frédéric Deschamps in 2007 to now. Additionally, Grayson has been invited to perform in many European countries during 2007 to 2011. France, Spain, Germany, UK, Portugal, Slovakia, Italy, USA, Canada, Russia, Portugal, China, New Zealand, Australia, Finland. In 2009, Grayson became the only person to ever win the Coupe Mondiale top classical category and the Coupe Mondiale Virtuoso Entertainment category in the same year. In September 2010 Grayson won the Trophée Mondial Classique World Accordion Championships and retired from competitions. At the 2010 Coupe Mondiale, Varaždin, Croatia, Grayson was elected to the prestigious CIA Music Committee. For 2011, Grayson has travelled to over 10 different countries performing concerts and seminars with famous French teacher Frédéric Deschamps and is in high demand as a concert artist able to perform to at the highest level, a varied program of serious concert works as well as entertainment music. ![]()
Grayson attended Takapuna Primary School, leaving with the Rotary Prize for "The Child most likely to succeed." At Takapuna Normal Intermediate School, he took the lead part in the school show and began playing tennis. He later attended Rangitoto College representing the largest school in New Zealand in volleyball and tennis. He lead all of the New Zealand volleyball teams into the arenas at the Australasian Schools Volleyball Tournaments with a Maori challenge.
