Festival Report

The 58th Trophée Mondiale organized by the Confédération Mondiale de l'Accordéon (CMA) was held in Eastern Sarajevo, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1st -5th October. The event was organized by the CMA delegate Zoran Rakic under the auspices of the Academy of Music of the University in Eastern Sarajevo.

surrounded city that hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics.

The event, held at the World Business Centre in Eastern Sarajevo attracted a record number of competitors and representatives from 19 countries: Italy, Serbia, France, Macedonia, Spain, Slovenia, Portugal, Montenegro, New Zealand, Russia, USA, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Croatia, Belarus, Norway, Austria, Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On Wednesday 1st October following the draw for playing order at the Opening Concert, CMA President Frédéric Deschamps welcomed all with immense joy for the first time in the history of the Trophée Mondiale, to Eastern Sarajevo, following the 2007 festival in Samara, Russia and the 2006 festival in Kragujevac, Serbia.

On Thursday the 1st round and Friday the 2nd round of competitions were held in all four categories. Senior Classic and Junior Classic during the day and Senior Variety and Junior Variety in the evening.

The International jury's consisted of:
Senior Classic
President - Fréderic Deschamps (France), Miljan Bjeletic (Serbia), Damir Bužleta (Croatia), Anibal Freire (Portugal), Mihail Imhanjicki (Russia), Zorica Karakutovska (Macedonia), Roman Pechmann (Austria), Rade Radovic (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Daniel Rodriguez (Spain).

Junior Classic
President - Jacques Mornet (France), Patricia Bartell (USA), Juan Carlos Carcamo (Spain), Danijela Gazdic (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Alla Katz (Russia), Slavko Magdic (Slovenia), Heather Masefield (New Zealand), Renzo Ruggieri (Italy), Nada Vješica (Serbia).

Variety
President - Raymond Bodell (UK), Patricia Bartell (USA), Anibal Freire (Portugal), Zorica Karakutovska (Macedonia), Alla Katz (Russia), Slavko Magdic (Slovenia) (Snr only), Heather Masefield (New Zealand) (Jnr only), Roman Pechmann (Austria), Daniel Rodriguez (Spain), Nada Vješica (Serbia).

On Saturday, 5 finalists were selected for the final of the Senior Classic Category:
Dimitri Bouclier (France), Miodrag Dordevic (Serbia), Mirko Jevtovic (Serbia), Grayson Masefield (New Zealand) and Ivan Sverko (Croatia).
The packed audience were treated to music of an exceptional standard.

Following the CMA General Assembly the results of all 4 categories were announced at the Prize Giving ceremony.

Grayson Masefield, the only competitor to be in two categories, also won 2nd place in the Senior Classique category.

During the CMA congress the delegates from Portugal Anabel & Diana Freire gave an excellent powerpoint presentation for the 2009 event to be held in Albufeira, Portugal during the last week of September 2009.
