一、Host: The Committee of the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival                


二、The Aim of the Competition: We hold this competition to further promote the development of the accordion career in China, to enhance the communication between China and the outside world in accordion profession and to motivate improvement of the professional and amateur teaching, composing and performing of accordion.


三、Institutional branches: Under the framework of the Festival Committee, we have the Art Committee, the Judging Panel and the Secretariat.


四、The term of the Art Week:  from May 2nd to May 6th,2006


五、Groups and Pieces assigned:

Group

1.
New works and Performance of Chinese accordion Group (no limit for age; solo, duet or chamber music are allowed; the work should be unpublished; the prizes for performing and composing are separate)
2.
Adult Group (Artist Group, born before August 31.1987) (the committee will decide whether it is necessary to establish a keyboard Free Bass Group according to the situation)
3.
Professional Youth Group (born between September 1, 1987 to August 31,1993.Professional Group of students in the middle schools attached to music conservatories. Amateurs are also allowed)
4.
Youth Group (Traditional Bass Group) (born before August 31,1990)
5. Teenager Group (professional students are not allowed) (born between September 1,1990 to August 31,1993)
6.
Children Group A (born between September 1,1993 to August 31,1996)
7.
Children Group B (born after September 1,1996)
8.
Youth Duo, Trio or Quartet Group (aged above 16, born before August 31,1990)
9.
Teenager Duo, Trio or Quartet Group (aged below 15, born after September 1,1990)
10.
Chamber Music Group (for Accordion and Other Instruments, mainly accordion, no more than 5 players)

Supplement:
1. We divide the ages according to that of schooling in China. Those who were born before or on August 31st are regarded as one year younger while those who were born after or on September 1st are regarded as one year older.
2. Young contestants are allowed to enter for the senior groups, but they are not allowed in two different grades at the same time.
3. Except New works Group, Duo Group and Chamber Group, each contestant is allowed in only one contest for solo.

Regular Pieces:

1. New works and Performance of Chinese accordion Group
There is no time limit. The works to be played in the competition should be pre-chosen by the committee by mail 1 months in advance.
The Prize for the New works and Performance Group is judged separately and is not completely related to the work itself.
The grades and proportion of the prizes for New works Group and the other performing groups are not confirmed in advance. It depends on the actual situation.
The competition of New works and Performance of Chinese accordion Group has only one round as final.
The works winning the Excellent Composing Prize will be recommended to attend the New works Competition of the “Shanghai Spring International Music Festival”.

2. Adult Group
First round: only assigned works are allowed
     1) Sonata in G major K,13 / D.Scarlatti
     2) Sonata / Andrzej Krzanowski
Final round: freely chosen pieces (different from the first round) within 30 minutes and with different styles, including one whole original Bayan(or Accordion) composition with several movements

3. Professional Youth Group
First round : only assigned works are allowed
     1) Sonata in F major K,17 / D.Scarlatti
     2) Passacalia / N.Tchaikin
Final round: freely chosen pieces (different from the first round) within 25 minutes and with different styles (no limitation of amount).

4. Youth Group
First round: the works assigned 1) Pavana and Rondo / Carlos Surinach
                 2) A self-chosen composition(within 10 minutes)
Final round: freely chosen pieces (different from the first round) within 20 minutes and with different styles (no limitation of amount)

5. Teenager Group
First round: 1or 2 pieces (freely chosen) within 8 minutes
Final round: freely chosen pieces (no more than 3, different from the first round and with different styles) within 15 minutes, including one technical piece

6. Children Group
First round: 1or 2 pieces (freely chosen) within 6 minutes for Group A and 4 minutes for Group B
Final round: freely chosen pieces (no more than 2 and different from the first round) within 10 minutes for Group A and 8 minutes for Group B.

7. Duo, Trio or Quartet Group
1) Younger than 15 years old, freely chosen pieces, no more than 4 accordions and with the time limit of 12 minutes
2) Older than 16 years old, freely chosen pieces, no more than 4 accordions and with the time limit of 15 minutes
Notes: only one round as final

8. Chamber Music Group:
  The Orchestra or band (freely chosen forms) should be no more than 5 players, using the accordion(s) as the leading instrument(s). Freely chosen pieces within 30 minutes.
    Notes: only one round as final


Supplement:
Apart from New works Group and Chamber Music Group, players of other groups should play by memory.
The Scarlatti Sonata assigned should be played completely (repeat included).
The time of performing should at least come to half of the time assigned.
The original Bayan(or accordion) composition with several movements assigned for the final round of the Adult Group should be completely performed; partial performance is not allowed.
Players who break the above rules will have his or her score deducted by 0.1-0.2 points from the average score in this round..
If the performance time is longer than assigned, the player will be asked to stop playing. But the committee will grade it as a normal performance so that it won’t affect the result.

The committee keeps the right of the adjustment of grouping according to the actual situation
 


六、Award and Prize


    第1. Adult Group, 1st prize 20,000 Yuan (RMB), 2nd prize10,000 Yuan, 3rd prize 5,000 Yuan, 4th prize 3,000 Yuan, 5th prize 2,000 Yuan, 6th prize 1,000 Yuan
2. Professional Youth Group, 1st prize 8,000 Yuan, 2nd prize 5,000 Yuan, 3rd prize 3,000 Yuan, 4th prize 1,000 Yuan, 5th prize 500 Yuan, 6th prize 300 Yuan
3. Youth Group, 1st prize 3,000 Yuan, 2nd 2,000 RMB, 3rd 1,000 Yuan, 4th 800 Yuan, 5th 500 Yuan, 6th 300 Yuan
4. Teenager Group, one 1st prize 500 Yuan, two 2nd prize 300 Yuan, three 3rd prize 200 Yuan
5. Children Group A and B (separately), 1st prize 300 Yuan, 2nd prize 200 Yuan, 3rd prize 100 Yuan
6. Duo, Trio or Quartet Group,
Younger than 15 years old, 1st prize 2,000 Yuan, 2nd prize 1,000 Yuan, 3rd prize 500 Yuan
Older than 16 years old, 1st prize 2,500 Yuan, 2nd prize 1,500 Yuan, 3rd prize 800 Yuan
7. Chamber Music Group, 1st prize 2,000 Yuan, 2nd prize 1,000 Yuan, 3rd prize 500 Yuan
8. New works and Performance of Chinese accordion Group,
New Works Prize: Excellent Composing Prize 5,000 Yuan, Composing Prize 2,000 Yuan.
Prize of Performance for New Works: 1st prize 1,000 Yuan, 2nd prize 800 Yuan, 3rd prize 500 Yuan


Notes:
All prizes will be awarded with Chinese RMB currency. Foreign candidates will be awarded in US dollars according to the current rate.
If candidates tie, the award will be divided equally.


七、Registration and Contact

1. Registration date: January 1-March 31,2006. All the candidates should carefully fill in the Registration Form, and send it in with 2 pieces of photographs (1 inch), copies of valid identity certification (ID card, Passport or Household Register). 2. Registration Fee:
Children Group & Teenager Group: 200 Yuan (RMB),
Professional Youth Group, Youth Group & Adult Group: 300 Yuan
Duo, Trio or Quartet Group (younger than 15 years old): 300 Yuan
Duo, Trio or Quartet Group (older than 16 years old): 400 Yuan
Chamber Music Group: 300 Yuan
New works and performance of Chinese accordion: 300 Yuan

Candidates can remit through post office. In case of loss, please do not send cash in the envelope. Sign on the remit draft candidates’ names and the groups they are applying for. The address is above.


八、Competition Notice

1. The first round and the final round hold only one draw so as to decide the order of the competition
2. When breaking the Rules, the qualification of the candidates would be canceled.
3. Candidates should take legal and valid certificates with them (ID card, Passport or Household Register). The Committee have the right to check the identity and age of the candidates when need. If candidates cannot show their legal and valid certificates, the Committee will take certain measures depending on different situations. If necessary, the prizes they won will be cancelled.
4.The adjudicators are composed of Chinese and foreign experts. The result candidates get must not be changed.
5.The winners of each group are obliged to take part in the winners’ concert and the award ceremony. Otherwise, they will automatically lose their qualification of the winning prize.
6.All candidates who enter the final round of each group will be granted a certificate.
7.The enrollment is on May 1st, 2006 and the place will be informed. Candidates should hand in complete and clear copy of their freely chosen works. The candidates will not be enrolled with copies that are ambiguous, illegible or information missed.
8. We provide certain support of accommodations for foreign candidates.
9. Candidates should carefully read the Rules before registration and learn the process and content. Once applying for the competition, candidates will be regarded as willing to obey the Rules and have no comment on the results of the competition.
 


九、The Committee of the competition holds the ultimate right of all the explanation of this Rule.
