Opening Speech

Good Morning Ladies And Gentlemen.

For those that don’t know me, I am Tania Marx, President of the Australian Accordion Teachers Association (AATA).  It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 2017 Australian International Accordion Championships and festival.

We are looking forward to a wonderful weekend of music making and are particularly excited to welcome those of our guests and competitors who have travelled from Asia, Europe, across the Tasman and out of state to help us all celebrate the accordion.

Over the next two days, we will enjoy competition performances of all levels, a workshop on playing in groups and ensembles and of course our Gala Concert to be held here at the Club Marconi tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. This is something that you will not want to miss, with performances from some of our international guests, local Australian performers and groups and of course our prize winners.

Please encourage all your family and friends to attend this event as it will really be a highlight of the festival.

Also tomorrow evening, I invite you all to attend our Farewell Dinner at the Star Buffet downstairs at here at the Marconi Club.  This is a great value meal and we will make sure that we have accordion music while you enjoy your dinner.

So without further ado – Welcome to Sydney, and I would now like to declare the 2017 Australian International Accordion Championships and Festival – OPEN!
